A building permit is required when the dollar amount of material and labor exceeds $1,500. Residing, reshingling, finishing of interior surfaces, and installation of cabinetry are exempt and do not require a permit. Blacktop, cement driveways, etc. require a permit if material and labor exceeds $1,500. Building permits should be obtained prior to starting a project. The permits are valid for 12 months, but work must be started within 6 months of issuance. The building inspector or police officer will halt any project without a proper permit. All projects must meet the zoning code ordinance and the UDC ordinance.

OPEN OUTDOOR FIRE PERMIT
Required for any outdoor fire or fire ring within the Village. Print two copies, bring both to the Village Office for signature, and keep one signed copy for your records. Fires must follow Ordinance 145 rules (size limits, clean dry wood only, adult supervision, etc.). Check for current burn bans before lighting any fire.
